So You Want to Be a WordCamp Speaker:

A practical workshop for beginners

So You Want to Be a WordCamp SpeakerHave you considered presenting at a WordCamp but thought you didn’t know enough or felt like an imposter? Does the idea of speaking in front of a group set your knees quivering and your heart racing?

During this hands-on session we’ll look at what’s stopped you from speaking in the past – and explore how to move past your fears. We’ll delve into practical techniques for choosing a topic, writing a proposal, crafting presentation content, and making great slides.

We’ll discuss how to avoid common public-speaking mistakes and techniques for battling stage fright. We’ll help you navigate the dreaded post-presentation Q&A session and gather post-talk feedback. Each participant will come out of the workshop with a WordCamp or meetup talk proposal – and more confidence to submit it. Check out http://getspeak.in for a sneak peek.

This workshop will be given in English.

This event is free and open to all, but an RSVP is required as space is limited.

Workshop Leaders

Kathryn Presner
Kathryn Presner thrives on helping people get the most out of WordPress. After a career designing and building websites for clients, she joined Automattic as a Happiness Engineer in 2012 and is a member of the Theme Team, where she help people with theme-related troubleshooting and customization on both WordPress.com and self-hosted sites. She enjoys spreading her passion for WordPress at WordCamps, Ladies Learning Code, Girl Geek Dinners, and other grassroots events. Non-WordPress hours are spent collecting vintage Pyrex mixing bowls, growing organic garlic, and cavorting with
her three felines.

Tammie Lister
I am a theme wrangler at Automattic, based in the UK. I am lucky enough to spend my days arm-deep in themes. I am a themed at heart and passionate about everything theme. I am an admin for the WordPress theme review team and love working with new and old reviewers. When I’m not theming, I like to practice yoga, getting dog hugs from my two Labradors and relaxing with my husband in our home near the sea.
