WHO IS THIS FOR
Any plugin or theme developer! Some PHP knowledge will be required. This meet up will be centered around PHP coding for WordPress and will be dealing with PHP issues at various skill levels (starter to advanced). Also, this is also a great place for those wishing to learn more about WordPress development.

EVENT FORMAT
We will be hosting a workshop discussing one or two topics from the list below. If you’d like us to cover a specific topic on this or have topics you would like us to cover, feel free to let us know by commenting in this event. We will be posting the topics for this month’s event a few days prior to the meetup following your feedback

TOPICS
Jeremy Clarke will lead a discussion about caching data inside your code (value caches rather than page caching) to speed up your site. We’ll look at the Options and Transients API where specific content can be stored as well as server-side solutions to making your fetched data work harder for you. We’ll also consider the built-in ‘pseudocron’ system, which can be used to schedule events for the future.

Just a reminder to bring your laptop (if you have one) as well as some questions or coding/development issues you’d like to talk about as a group. If you have a lesson you learned that you’d like to share with the group bring that along too.

Carte Google: http://is.gd/hdQzS

WordCamp Montreal 2011 – Announcing date (July 9-10) and early-bird ticket sale

Résumé version française »

Note: The Montreal WordPress Community has a new site and a new URL. Read the “About wpmtl.org” page to learn about the new website structure.

After a dynamic first public meeting with and an online survey of the community (check that link to see a summary of the results) we, the core planning group, are ready to announce the vital facts about WordCamp Montreal 2011:

Register now, save 10$ »

The 2011 website (permanently available at http://wcmtl.org) is still in progress and most of the details still need to be worked out but now is the time to start getting excited and getting involved!

This is the year you finally impress us with your speaking abilities!

We are starting early this year to ensure that you have time to consider, plan and prepare your talks and presentations, so don’t put it off ’till it’s too late. Check out our speaker guidelines and information, then apply to speak today!

Sponsors needed, support the local WordPress community!

Another reason we’re starting early is to give potential sponsors enough headway to work us into their budgets. A WordCamp sponsorship is a great investment and a super-affordable one compared to other conferences. If you are a business please consider sponsoring us this year and if you work at one please convince your boss to do so! Read about why sponsoring WordCamp is awesome, then contact us to express interest and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

Will there be micro-sponsorships again this year? YES!

Like last year we will be offering a limited number of 200$ micro-sponsorships designed for freelancers and tiny companies that still want to help make WordCamp a success. They can already be purchased on the eventbrite page, just buy the micro-sponsor ticket instead of normal registration. Thanks to everyone who can find the cash to help us out!

Stay tuned for more details

We’re working hard to ensure this is the best WordCamp Montreal yet, so please keep in touch and let us know if you have questions. You can get updates via our Twitter account and by joining the facebook group. The RSS for this blog is also an excellent thing to follow :)

Montreal WordPress developer_meetup() Oct 20, 2010

Montreal has a very strong WordPress community with a lot of talented plugin and theme developers. It would be great to get everyone together to talk about current projects, discuss problems you have been encountering and share any solutions you have found. We need to pool our experiences and knowledge so we can strengthen the community.

RSVP for the event on Facebook »

NOTE: This is NOT the drinks meetup at Brutopia, which is still happening Nov 7:

EVENT FORMAT

For the first meetup, we will do quick introductions so everyone knows who’s who. The idea would be to make this an informal round table where you share your experiences and help out fellow developers with their problems. Bring your laptop (if you have one) as well as some questions or coding/development issues you’d like to talk about as a group. If you have a lesson you learned that you’d like to share wtih the group bring that along too.

Depending on interest, this could turn into a monthly event. There are certainly enough issues with coding WordPress to keep us going a long time :)

WordCamp is just a week away! Are you ready? / WordCamp a lieu dans une semaine

Le français suit.

We’ve been working overtime to have everything ready for WordCamp and we’re pretty sure it’s gonna rock. A lot’s been going on and we wanted to summarize all the new information in case people missed it on Twitter and the blog.

Venue announced: UQAM Coeur Des Sciences, Agora Hydro-Quebec

Map and address of venue for wordcamp montrealIt’s a mouthful but it’s also a great place to have a WordCamp. Right in the heart of downtown Montréal, the venue can hold up to 250 people, so register now in case we run out of space.

For full address details, a couple of useful maps and advice for nearby hotels check out our Venue Information page.

Use http://wcmtl.org for twitter and mobile

Our official website url is http://wordcampmontreal.org but we’ve also registered http://wcmtl.org for those times when less is more. Use it in your tweets to avoid ugly shorteners or on your iPhone to avoid typing all day. You can even link to specific parts of our site by adding them at the end of the short url, like http://wcmtl.org/schedule.

Tshirts! Register ASAP so we know your size

We are close enough to the event that we need to start ordering shirts, if you can register now it would help us ensure that we have one ready in your size on the big day.

Tons of prizes and giveaways announced

If you’ve been following our Twitter stream you might have noticed how excited we are about the free stuff companies have given us to raffle off during the event. Sure its consumerism gone mad and these products have at best tangential relationships to WordPress, but still, free stuff is nice and so are the companies that give them to us!

Anyone registered for WordCamp could win any of the following just by showing up:

  • 2 copies of Adobe CS5 Master Collection
  • 3 other Adobe software packages.
  • 2 iPads from our sponsor NetFirms
  • Free premium (paid) themes from local themers RichWP and Bavotasan

Every single WordCamp attendee will also have access to the special 1$ hosting package from Netfirms!

Did you register yet?

With so little time before the event we need everyone to register immediately! Having late registrations makes ordering food and shirts a lot more complicated. If you’re coming (and we’re pretty sure you are) register now!
