The year 2017 was another great one for our group, as we continued to share knowledge, offer support, and build friendships.
In total, we held 14 meetups in 2017. We learned about Active Directory, WordPress.com, blogging best practices, and more. We held hands-on workshops on theme creation and even had a visit from the Automattic Theme team. Our social calendar included our annual WordCamp planning meeting, board game nights, a family picnic, and our recent Holiday party.
On August 12-13, we held our 9th WordCamp, where 350 attendees gathered at Concordia University to learn more about WordPress. The two-day conference was another huge success and we’re always thrilled to organize an event that attracts speakers and attendees both local and international.
This year, Richard Archambault stepped down as our local chapter organizer after many years of organizing meetups and two years leading the WordCamp planning. Thank you Richard for everything you’ve contributed to our community!
We recently redesigned the WordPress Montreal website at wpmtl.org. It was long overdue and is still a work in progress, but one of the neat features is the site is finally available in separate French and English versions thanks to WPML. While a lot of our planning now happens on meetup.com, we love having our very own space to promote our activities, share stories, and showcase the people in our community. Take a look around!
In December, we were invited to have a booth at WordCamp US in Nashville, Tennessee, and share more about our community with the wider WordPress world.
What can you look forward to in 2018? We’re busy planning the first few meetups of the new year and we’re in the early stages of organizing our 10th WordCamp in August 2018! Stay tuned for an invitation to our community WordCamp planning meeting in the coming months.
What about you? What meetup topics would you like to see in 2018? If you’d like to get involved in speaking at or hosting meetups in the new year, get in touch! And of course, we hope to see even more of you attend our events. Join our meetup.com group to get notifications on all our upcoming events. If you haven’t already, fill out the survey sent out by WordPress Central, you can still do so!
We’re very proud of our talented and diverse group and wish you all a wonderful 2018.
